Always Be Prepared To Speak
- Are you always prepared to speak about your business or service
at a moment's notice?
- Can you describe your business in 30 seconds or less?
- Do you have a mission statement for your business?
- Do you have a powerful, motivational 3-minute presentation about
your business/services?
If you answered NO to any one of the above questions start now to
prepare a thirty-second and a three-minute presentation about your
business. As business people we never know when we will be called
upon to speak. Preparation is the key. Write out your self-introduction
script and practice its delivery.
When writing the script remember:
-
Answer the
WIIFM question. (What’s in it for me?) What can you or your products
do for them? What will people do, be, become or have as a result
of your product?
- Keep it short, informative and relevant to the networking
situation. (Paladin – old west bounty hunter business
card read “have gun will travel.”)
-
What is your Unique Selling Proposition
(USP)? What separates you from your competition. Make a
list of the talents and knowledge you have to offer. Several
categories to consider when taking inventory of your talents and
knowledge are:
Work
experience
Community Work
Expertise
Education/Training
Organizations/Associations
Hobbies
- Ask yourself “Would I like to do business with me?
Why? Or, why not?”
After you have your scrip-practice, practice, practice. If you want to be unique
began your introduction with the problem(s) you solve. Example: You know how,
when you (state the problem)... are feeling overwhelmed, out of control and nothing
seems to be going right. Well I help people create balance, manage their emotions
control their time and take charge of their lives.
Remember, customers want quality, value, speed, convenience, choice and to be appreciated. Whatever your business
you can add value to your clients by being a source of ideas, information and
inspiration |
