FAITH IS KNOWING

“The sun can shine even in the midst of rain and we can have joy and happiness even in the midst of pain.”

September 11, 200l is a day we will remember forever.  Thousands of Americans lost their lives.  Not on war torn fields thousands of miles from home, but right here in our own back yard.  Our confidence in national security was shattered and the face of this Country was changed forever.   People, just like you and I hugged and kissed their loved ones and left their homes for work.  They had no idea that they would never return.  Others boarded an airplane, not realizing this would be their very last ride.

Tragedy is never welcomed, often imposed, and sometimes causes us to question our very existence.   This horrible experience has shaken the foundation on which the faith of thousands of people is built.  Can we dare to dream of a future free of terrorism?  Can we pick up our lives and begin again?  Can we truly believe that this nation called America can rebuild?

We can begin to live again, we can dream, and we can rebuild, but it requires faith.  Faith is knowing in your heart, in your spirit, and in your mind that in your darkest hour—you are not alone.  In the midst of the storm—the wind will be rebuked and the sea will be calm. (Mark 4:37-41)

If we are going to survive these perilous times, we need to have a faith that knows, a faith that grows, and a faith that is rooted in spirituality.  When everything is going wrong, we must have faith that it will be right again.  When it appears to be hopeless, we must expect a miracle.  When we feel like giving up, we must remember God’s promise—I will never leave you or forsake you.  Faith gives hope and hope is what we need right now.

I say to each of you, in spite of the overwhelming circumstances, in spite of what we are experiencing, in spite of what we are going through right now, God is able.  Repeat this prayer—“Lord you have been taking care of me all my life and this is no different.”  When you have faith, you will be in good spirit because you know this has not come to stay but this too shall pass.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and the airline crashes.
