Setting Goals Write out your goals. It is vital to know
what you want. Without goals your networking may be aimless and
nonproductive. Without direction you may encounter only frustration
and disappointment. With goals you will have a purpose for every
networking meeting and opportunity. Do you know why you are here and
what it is you want to happen as a result of being here? It is OK to set general long-term goals, but
short-term goals must be specific. Once you have specific goals,
then networking is one way to help you achieve them. So what are some of your goals. I’ll
start. I am a professional speaker and trainer. I want to meet
people who are interested in improving their employees’ coping-skills or
who wants a speaker at their next event to motivate and inspire the
audience. Also, individuals who want to improve and get better.
Interpersonal Skills (people skills) are
your ability to get along with people you don’t know well. These
are vital skills to successful networking.
Savvy Networking Networking is an enrichment program, not
entitlement program. Many people feel they should be given leads,
referrals and information that they have not earned. We must earn
leads by establishing communication and rapport. People who have resources are resourceful.
The closest thing to knowing something is to know where and how to find
it. We establish these connections by meeting,
mingling and communicating. When it comes to networking good things
do not come to those who wait, good things come to those who initiate. Networking to Position Yourself as an
