Staying
Motivated In Times Of Change
How do we stay
motivated when things are changing all around us? How do we stay fresh and
available emotionally to our clients?
How do we continue to give 100%, a hundred percent of the time and
not burn out, give out or give up?
Answering
these questions will help you focus on what you can do to create peace,
harmony and balance in your life. As
a motivational speaker whose life work is to motivate other people I have
to be especially careful that I don’t burn our, give out or give up. I have to constantly look for ways to replenish my energy
source. In this fast pace,
ever-changing, rapid response world it is easy to lose perspective of what
needs to be done and how much we can really accomplish and still keep our
sanity.
Staying
motivated in times of change requires that we:
-
Embrace
change – Find ways to make change work for
instead of against us. Read
books, take classes, go to seminars, work
with a coach or consultant, find a mentor.
-
Anticipate change
- The key to success in any industry is to look for the
catalyst that is creating change.
Today it is -
TECHNOLOGY. Find ways to keep up with what is happening now.
And
what we can expect to happen in one, three and five years. Read,
read, read.
-
Get
feedback - Customers are the best source of feedback as you look for new and
better ways to perform – Create ways to receive feedback.
Surveys, focus groups, consumer panels, etc.
- Engage
in a life-long self-improvement program. Continually
seeking more knowledge and
newer methods. We must be open
to new ideas and never satisfied with the status quo.
-
Admit we are human beings with limitations and weaknesses
Put away your super (man) (woman) cape.
Plan, Organize, Set limits, Share the load, Build a
support system, Ask for help.
-
Balance – Give yourself the gift of doing nothing to balance the days
when you do too much. Create
a special place where you can be alone to pray, meditate or sit
quietly. We need solitude to replenish.
-
Knowing or discovering what brings you joy in your work?
Design your work day so that you can do more of the things that
bring you joy.
-
Laugh
and have fun.
Take your work seriously,
but don’t take yourself too seriously.
Be spontaneous, flexible.
Enjoy every moment of what you do.
Learn to enjoy the journey.
